Synthesia is a fun music game that you can use to learn how to play the piano right from your computer. Although it looks completely different, in essence it’s similar to how you would learn to play the guitar with Guitar Hero, only obviously you’re using your computer keyboard to play the piano in this program. Alternatively, if you have an electric piano keyboard at home, you can connect it to the computer and play using the real piano keys instead.

You can play tons of different songs on the piano with Synthesia. The game comes with several music files by default, mostly video game sound tracks, but you can load up any song you want as long as you can find it in MIDI format or convert it using some conversion tool.

Synthesis is suitable for just about all skill levels on the piano. Even if you are an absolute beginner and don’t know how to play at all, with some patience and effort, you can learn to play with this game. Make sure you record yourself playing to track your progress as you continue to improve each time you practice.
